1.
Wish I knew why the stars in the sky would wait for another day Beaming about are you thinking could now be the moment to shine a ray Figuring out why the Earth is so loud could take the fun away Mystery lies where the mind meets the eye and no one knows the time of day
2.
Fated Dream 04:16
Slipping away to a coast on a pink day from a dream Swept away by a chord I have heard before long ago The time has come to write the cliche Dreams can only meet you half All around it’s the place it’s an old sound ringing out For a while I could dance in the turnstile wondering The time has come to write the cliche Dreams can only meet you half If I’m falling apart can I trust it’s fated by a star? A wish sent in the dark, that could fade Kindred daylight took me by surprise Question in your eyes Answered by a sweet wave of pure delusion Youthful in it’s kind Hearts are intertwined Fated by a rare dream
3.
Lily 02:49
In every song I search for you Window to nowhere nothing new I can see blue and green Not a clue what are you Brimming with doubt I aim to find What’s behind yellow lines Recognize my time I’m out of touch but at the right time to ignore the signs I’m out of focus But it is totally bright enough to see you I’m paralyzed Wait for it to come Brighter than the sun Respond to no one Write about your fear Whisper to next Ring out in your ear I lost momentum going offline Until a later time I deviated, but it is suddenly so bright Starlight

5.
Search and find a way to speak in time It’s hard to find a way Maybe someday It’s like a dream but not so bright It’s simple to be blind to what’s gray When the thought appears in the dead of night I turn to recognize time from fear

4 A Cloud 02:41
Better wait for something better Remember to wait for something better 4 days now I’ve wished for it to catch a cloud Don’t know how to wait for what is near Think it’s hidden in a dream Or a sign I missed to be found Easy now, I’m waiting but I haven’t found anything better Close your eyes and you might see the light that calls you has passed by Forever You’ll wait for something better
8.
Borderline 02:36
Do you worry that their game will be unmatched? It’s a matter of time Learn to socialize Romantize normality, deny the severity Conquest of the blind Fights the serpentine Saturday strive to renew Can’t decide what you’re going to do Sun goes up You have to think about If it should end now Does it pass the time, Or is it fine? Borderline It takes a doubt, a wish Connect, undo, Suspect that it’s time sensitive My super power is to dream in flight Pixelated sky and a compromise
9.
The End Room 01:37
10.
12 Stars 04:16
End of the night It’s friday, it’s bright I’m losing my mind Where will my thoughts arrive? Hope to forget That skipping fragment I’m thoughtful but why Can’t I resign? Trust fall into arms that know me beyond my own view You fall into a spiral stairwell That leads you two steps from nowhere Right next to me Into the night I’m careful, I’m light A new day is near A thought appears: 12 Stars that guide me through time Dark abyss graced by light

about

Excited to announce the release of “I Saw You in My Shadow”, Starla's first LP, which will be available digitally and on cassette November 4th. I started writing these songs in March 2020 and live-tracked the core of the record with Andrea Schiavelli and Bailey Wollowitz at Chris Cohen’s studio in LA in June 2021. I finished overdubbing trombone, extra synths, and Von on flute last fall in my bedroom. The record features current and old Starla members Andrea Schiavelli, Bailey Wollowitz, Von Kolk, and Zach Phillips. Very preciously mixed by Ryan Power and mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk.

In the months that I was really focused on writing this, I was unemployed, walking long distances every day, and sleeping very poorly. I would wake up 4-5 times a night and was having the most vivid dreams I'd ever experienced. Sometimes a melody, lyric or chords would appear and whenever I could I’d wake from this sleep/falling asleep state, record the content, go back to sleep, and work out the song once I was awake. I wrote Wish I Knew Why, Lily, and Absorption Period that way. The other songs were instigated by melodies that came to mind while walking that I’d voice record into my phone and work on later.
